A week of running my Yugo

I have been driving my Yugo back and forth to work for about a week now. It is not anything like the jokes or stories I hear describe. Everyone here told me it was junk, or the worst car ever built, or has no power at all. The little 1.3 seems to make a fair amount of power. I have a hill between me and my job. In my service truck, I top the hill at 25-35 MPH. The Yugo makes it up the hill at 50 MPH, 45 if I don't try hard.
I've been feeding it a 91 octane (RM/2) non ethanol fuel. The cab is a little tight, but the steering is great. I am very impressed with the headlight indicator on the dash, and the access to the fuel level sender under the back seat. Thankfully, I will not need to remove the sender since my fuel gauge automagically started working after two days.
I still don't have low beams, or a reliable indicator for left turns... Though it indicates perfectly for right turns and the outside turn lamps work in both positions. I just sometimes go around like a forgetful old man with my right turn signal on until the indicator flashes once or twice.
I still can't quite get the electric choke right. Sometimes it will kick the high idle while I am driving. A manual choke is looking better every day. I haven't figured out the bouncing from the rear at low speed yet, and if I leave a stop aggressively sometimes the car will lean one direction.
I also have a couple of noises I haven't quite identified yet. When going over a bump there is a rattle from all four wheels. I'm guessing that if all four do it, it's probably normal. Also, starting about 45-50 MPH I have a definite howl coming from the transaxle. Today I am going to try putting a lubricity additive in the gear oil and see if that quiets it down any.
The crankcase vent really smokes, but I am not ready to say it's blowby since I don't seem to be burning much if any oil. If my oil level goes down at all, I may throw some Lucas in it.
Overall, I really like the car. Now I just have to find some of the parts that nobody has here. Even yugoparts in Texas can't seem to get me a tray, and even asked me if I could help him find one.

Yugo is not the worst car, don't listen this people, and enjoy the car. I understand you're using a 91 octane fuel. Do you have a 95 or 98 octane fuel in America? This fuel is for Yugo.

Someone here said that 91 in our measurements is 98 in yours. Are you using the RM/2 method for octane there? The 91 octane I am buying here is probably the best and most expensive gasoline in the area at $3.15 a gallon, plus it smells like real fuel. Short of running 100LL aviation fuel, that's the best I can get.

If you rejet second barrel of carb,you will get even more power when you flor it..for electric choke,rewire it to get 12v whan car is runing,its shuts down faster..maybe high idle is because kicker is kicked in,because water themperature got lower than 70c

I've never opened it all the way up. Until I have new rubber all the way around, and conscript someone to help bleed the rear brakes I'm staying at a conservative 55mph.
I have 12v from the wiring harness hooked to the electric choke, but I don't have anything hooked from the cooling system to the carb. Unless the circuit works by the temperature indicated by the gauge I haven't hooked anything to the carb but the fuel line, the Throttle cable, the return line, the vacuum advance line, and the wire to the choke. I did away with everything else.

Just find jet from first barrel and put it on second barrel so you have same main jets,and than full throtle will be effective..than you will fill power from zastava big block 😅

Welp. Yugo is sidelined for a week until I can get a control arm. It was eating tires, so I got it aligned... Now it's super unstable. Looks like the left ball joint is wore out.

Још увек немам ниске греде или поуздан индикатор за леве окусе ... Иако савршено указује на исправне окретање и спољашње светиљке раде на оба положаја. Само понекад играм као заборављени старац са мојим десним знаком укључивања све док индикатор не упали једном или два пута.
Још увек не могу сасвим сигурно да добијем електричну чокаду. Понекад ће ударати високи идол док возим. Ручно подешавање изгледа боље сваког дана. Још увек нисам схватио да се са задње стране бацају са малог брзине, а ако оставим агресивно заустављање, понекад ће се аутомобил наслонити једном смеру.
Такође имам неколико шума које још нисам идентификовао. Приликом преласка на стражњицу се налази ударац са сва четири точка. Претпостављам да ако су све четири, вероватно је нормално. Такође, почев од 45-50 МПХ имам дефинитивно завијање из мењача. Данас ћу покушати да додам мазиво адитива у уље за преношење и видим да ли то угуши.
Издувни вентил из картера стварно пуши, али нисам спреман да кажем да је удувавам, јер изгледа да не пуцам много у било које уље. Ако се ниво уља уопште смањи, могао бих да га бацим у њега.
Свеукупно ми се свидело ауто. Сада морам да нађем неке делове које нико овде нема. Чак и иугопартс у Тексасу не могу да ми дају послужавник и чак су ме питали да ли могу помоћи да га пронађе.


Jako interesantna tema, samo neka nam neko objasni u cemu je stos ovde..???

Just seeing if anyone recognizes any symptoms I am having. My car is down right now, because I don't really want to take it over 35 MPH. It suddenly dodges sideways when braking or downshifting, and I'm guessing it's the ball joint. Next week hopefully. I really enjoy driving it. It is really a fun, quick little car. Has the brightest reverse lamps of anything I have ever driven. You can actually back it at night.
I did get my indicator working. The bulb was good, but I replaced everything in the back, and threw dielectric grease in the sockets. That all works now. Still a few more projects to do before everything works.

Bushing on contol arms and on anti sway bars are gone,or it is something losse on that area

It's the lower ball joint on the left control arm. It's got about a half inch of slop.

I replaced the control arm yesterday evening and drove home. Looks like it didn't completely fix the problem. I am suspecting a tie rod end on the opposite side. I took my other puddle jumper car to work this morning... A 1978 plymouth arrow, which is the same thing as a mitsubishi lancer Celeste. It has a 1.6 and a four speed. During the trip up the hill, it pulled down to 35 MPH. It seems the little 1.3 in the Yugo is making more power than the Mitsubishi 4G32 in the plymouth. I am even more impressed now.

I've looked the front end over, and had it looked over at an alignment shop. The only other thing that's loose is the right outer tie rod end. It did improve when I changed the left control arm, there's just still a little jump when you accelerate or decelerate. We'll see what she does after I change the tie rod end.

If you have problem when accelerate and decelerate you have problem with bushing on anti sway bar,or body cracked somewhere..tie rod dont make problem like you say

Well, I did the tie rod, and it seems to be better. Steering is still a little grabby, I'll have to see what it does on a wet spot. I did look over all the bushings, they are all present, and I can't move them with my hand.
